A SELECTION OF OUR PROJECTS
AVOIDING RUBBISH DESIGN: PROVIDING FOR BIN STORAGE ON NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT - NF60
"So-called ‘bin blight’ is a result of the growth of household waste recycling in recent decades. The appearance of housing developments can be spoiled if inadequate provision is not made for the storage of the additional wheelie bins and containers now needed. This report illustrates various solutions to the storage problem, along with examples of good practice."
JRP worked with NHBC and Design For Homes to produce this national design guidance document. Our experience and knowledge of residential development was critical in providing analytical and illustrative support to this document which was also highlighted in the national press.

THE PAVILIONS, METHLEY
Working with Walker Morris, John R Paley Associates succesfully obtained planning consent for 12 new bespoke homes in Methley’s Conservation Area on the site of the former Methley Infant School.
The Leeds City Council Planning Report said:
“The design of the proposed residential development is considered to be a high quality design which is a modern interpretation of a traditional court yard style development. The design pays particular attention to detail, with the incorporation of features and materials which reflect the surrounding historical context of the Conservation Area. These include the use of brick heads and sills, chimney stacks, and prominent gables and coursed stone with stone heads and sills. The scheme also includes variations in height with the main houses and their garages adding interest and variety, which is also characteristic of the area."
CHURCH FIELDS, BOSTON SPA
Church Fields is an 8ha site within the conservation area of Boston Spa.
John R Paley Associates were appointed in September 2008, and undertook a series of site visits to develop an understanding of the site, its context and the built fabric and structure of Boston Spa. The information gathered by these sites visits was augmented with historical research into the evolution of the town over the past 250 years and combined with experience gained on smaller projects within the immediate geographical area.
The philosophy underpinning this process centred upon invoking a sense of place defined through the spaces between buildings, their heights, textures, forms and solidity. The application of this philosophy would be on a pedestrian scale, connecting the riverbank with the high street in various ways, with subtle but unique detailing of the built form as expressions of individuality that are rarely observed in many modern housing estates
