Church Fields, Boston Spa, North Yorkshire

Church Fields is an 8ha site within the conservation area of Boston Spa. The site is allocated within the Leeds Unitary Development Plan Review (July 2006) as a Phase 3 housing site, H3-3A.25. John R Paley Associates were appointed in September 2008, and undertook a series of site visits to develop an understanding of the site, its context and the built fabric and structure of Boston Spa (Updated 18th March 2011)

More about this project

  Grimes Dyke, Whinmoor

JRP were appointed to prepare a masterplan and outline planning application for an allocated housing site on the urban fringe of Leeds. The masterplan is informed by the topography of the site and the numerous existing trees and hedges. Areas for detention of surface water have been designed to provide maximise biodiversity in a corridor of green space along Grimes Dyke. The design ensures that the important links to the site are respected and key connections made at strategic locations including provision of cycle links both within the site and in terms of crossing facilities over the adjacent A64 York Road.

  Kew, Southport

We were commissioned by a national Housebuilder to prepare a tender proposal for the re-development of a major site in Southport. The brief included masterplanning the site, which provided uses including 350,000 sq ft of B1 office uses, 650 dwellings, 3.5 hectares of public open space and a car showroom. In addition to this JRP co-ordinated the tender proposal providing detailed justification of the feasibility and deliverability of the proposal.

  Newlands, Hull

Set to the north west of Hull city centre, this development proposes 47 dwellings set alongside 13 Grade II listed buildings. The listed buildings on site form part of a wider group that includes St Nicholas School and Stratten Hall. As part of the planning process, we prepared two alternative schemes for presentation to the planning committee members - One elevated traditionally taking influence from the adjacent listed buildings, and one contemporary scheme to show the contrasting styles. The committee voted in favour of the traditional scheme. We went on to secure planning approval for a new build scheme incorporating an office, 9 apartments and 38 houses.

Navigation Point, Castleford

JRP worked with Merlion Capital to produce a high quality residential layout and bespoke dwelling designs for this proposal situated to the north of Castleford Town Centre. The proposals incorporate river frontage housing and apartments as well as riverside walkways that will transform the waterfront. JRP attained Reserved Matters Approval for the first phase of the development comprising 279 dwellings with 228 Houses and 51 Apartments. We have also produced a full set of production information (Stage F) for the scheme, and work is due to start on site in 2011.

  Former Garnetts Paper Mill, Otley

This 9.4 Ha site is located in a Conservation area to the north east of Otley town centre adjacent to the River Wharfe. The site had outline planning permission for a mixed use development, and our brief was to obtain reserved matters approval for; conversion to the existing mills into a restaurant, office and apartments, new build housing, apartments and a retirement complex

Our proposals also incorporated a riverside walkway and cycle route, and several feature areas and public spaces including a ‘mill yard’ adjacent to the retained mill and River Wharfe. The Planning Application’s outcome is currently pending with a decision expected in early 2011

  Brittania Mills, Bingley

The project involved the conversion of existing mill buildings and a number of new build blocks totalling 129 apartments. Many of the single storey extensions to the major mill buildings were removed to allow for two prominent mills to be returned to their authentic form. A lightweight top floor was designed for the canal side mill building to maximise the river frontage accommodation. The new build apartments are natural stone to blend in with the existing mills and are located adjacent to the existing mills to create a frontage to both the road side and canal side. They combine with the mills to form an exciting and prestigious development of luxury apartments.

  Kingswood Parks, Kingston-Upon-Hull - 2010

One of the largest greenfield developments in the UK, the site incorporates employment, education, retail and residential elements with approximately 4000 new homes planned around a new Village Centre. Working as retained architects, we are working closely with Barton Wilmore to ensure the translation of our masterplan into physical development. Our tasks include the detailed design of the residential land parcels for a range of housebuilders, working with White Young Green to design future infrastructure and coordinating land transfers for the client.
