Conservation   -   The Ridge
‘The Ridge’ is a building of significant interest, built in the late 19th century in the ‘Arts and Crafts’ style that is prevalent throughout ‘The Park' Conservation area of Mansfield. The brief was to convert ‘The Ridge’ into luxury apartments and utilse the substantial landscaped gardens with further development to make the conversion a viable project:It was vital that the hierarchy of 'The Ridge', which is the fundamental principal of the original design, remained.
There were numerous modern extensions to ‘The Ridge’ which detracted from the character of the original building and areas where the building had fallen into disrepair.
The proposal stripped the building back to its original best, making subtle additions to enable the footprint to convert to workable apartments.
The apartments have been designed to give the impression of a large house, very much in the style of 'The Ridge' and the adjacent 'Lochbuie'.
The hierarchy was maintained by styling the apartment blocks in such a way that they pay homage to these existing properties but do not try to compete with them.
The contours of the site enabled a basement car park which allowed the car to be virtually remove from the landscape.
